I'm Gem and my alter ego is The Little Grey Girl, so what else would I call my business?
I live in and run The Little Grey Girl from North London, which has been my home, on and off, for the last 6 years.
When I am not at my busy day job in the City, which can sometimes take over my life, I am usually knitting or making things.
I can be found every week day on the number 4 bus, knitting away during my commute, and often wish it wouldn't end so I could knit all day.
I once heard someone say that, the joy of knitting is that it doesn't care how you are feeling, what you are wearing or how long it's been since you last worked on it - This spoke to me. Knitting is my escape; my time to lose myself in a project, yarn and accessories.
From Idea to Realisation ...
When I started learning to knit, it was all about the finished product. That you could make something tangible and beautiful. In the years following that, I have discovered that it is all about the yarn, the pattern, the process and the tools you use, as well the finished objects. And, of course, let's not forget the knitting community.
My weakness these days is hand dyed indie yarns. I realised what I wanted was some modern accessories to go with them and that was how The Little Grey Girl was born.
Don't worry, just because I'm The Little Grey Girl, it doesn't mean that all of the products are grey, oh no! I knit a lot with grey so I love bright, fun, simple accessories which compliment and contrast with the knitting and crotchet on the needles.
I hope that you all get as much love and excitement from my products, that I feel when making and sending them out.
All of my products can be found in the online store or at my stall when I am on the road at events.
